curlicue: noun

a fancifully curved or spiral figure

Anything But A Card - Texture

So many techniques, but here are a couple highlights:

Lots of embossing with the Donna Downey dress form stamp, I used black, bronze and silver embossing powders. Then I cut the stamped dress form using my Fiskars finger tip knife for the ribs and the outside. For the smaller curlicues I used water and soaked the areas and then pulled the paper away from the embossed flourishes which worked very well. Thank goodness, or I would have gone crazy trying to cut them out!

I also love the masking tape around the edges, it has such a wonderful transparent quality to it. I used pastel pencils and a charcoal pencil for the outside edge which I smudged with my finger. I also used my can of Frosted Spray paint to seal it!

As for the recycled materials, her dress is made from a used dryer sheet, the netting is from a bag of fruit, and the blue tissue paper from a present I had received awhile back.

and a short slide show of the creation, no talking, no music, just a couple of pictures!
( although maybe I need to up load a song to add to it? ) in the meantime, you might want to hum along ;p

I have to say that I really enjoyed the demo and I look forward to my next one coming up in October. ( yep, I signed up to do another one on October 6th ) I was surprised how much work I actually got completed and I got to know a couple of the artists from the studio a little better too!! It was a wonderful experience!

I'm so behind with your posts - please accept my apologies. I've explained why in my email.
This is beautiful. Not sure what it is about the dress form and netting but it works a treat! I love the softness and femininity of your colours. The little butterflies are beautiful and I can see some lovely little beads on the hanger - they look gorgeous. I'm glad you entered this at Anything But A Card.
I promise to improve!

Hi Sandee, I have got that DD stamp too but always thought it too big to use (it is hanging on the wall in my craft room) - what you have done with it is amazing. You must have the patience of Job to cut all that out! Your hanging is fabulous and your video is brilliant - a little music would be good as my humming is dreadful, lol. Crafty hugs, Anne x

oh.Sandee. this is completely beautiful and amazing. I can't believe you hand cut the dress form, it looks like a die cut and the embossing is so pretty on it. The skirt is just gorgeous - and SO creative and the background is perfect. Thanks for sharing your techniques - you are amazing!

even though I didn't "get it" at first about the dress form, the video cleared up my initial confusion and then I reread and re-enJOYed your entire post/process. very cool this video-making. seems like it is NOT so hard as I've been making it, keeping it at more than an arm's length off my radar ;~D.
thank you for explaining how/why you did this, too. I learn so much when I set aside this time in my weeks to peruse all that others are and have been up to on APR.
BRAVA!!!

Hi Sandee! What a pretty wall hanging; and so neat that you did a demo with it! Good for you. Seems your art wall is going well! Looked back through all your turkey cards--I love them!! Especially your comic sentiments!

So, so pretty! Such clever use of "found" items, too. You must keep bins of things around, just in case!
I am going to have to find out about this embossing stuff, a mystery to me! I love the butterflies, too.

Hi Sandee,

Look at you! Congrats on doing your first demo. I love the end results! I learn so much from your posts. I wouldn't have thought of using several different embossing powders on the same thing.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I do enjoy knitting. I need to make a few of the knitted bracelets (although they haven't sold in my etsy shop :-(
Hugs,
Kay

I usually can't get videos to work, especially YouTube videos. But this one worked perfectly. I guess that was you in the picture. You are as lovely as I thought!

You know how much I LOVE recycled projects. This one was perfect. Netting, used tissue paper, and a dryer sheet are all in my arsenal. I love using them, too. You did a super job with this piece and the recycled materials.

BTW, I've used masking tape before, but never had the same transparent effect you got. That is really stunning. I like how you used it as a frame.
